City Considers Residential Solar Requirement

[] Gov. Schwarzenegger may be considering it for a portion of California’s new homes, but now a city appears poised to enact their own requirement for solar. According to the Argus Courier, the city of Petaluma, just north of San Francisco, is considering a requirement that some new residential housing developments include solar PV systems. Or at least make it an option. The possible ruling builds upon the city’s recent decision to require three previous residential subdivisions to include solar in their projects. City staff plan to study the issue further and present more information at a future city council meeting.
