Chinese Government to Boost Solar Investments

January 12, 2004 [] China’s State Development and Reform Commission revealed they are ready to invest 10 billion yuan (US$1.2 billion) in solar photovoltaic (PV) technology and implementation in the next five years. The Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology disclosed solar energy plans for the next five years which they anticipate will lead to a total installed PV capacity of 300 MW by 2005. The chinese government said approximately 10 million, largely impoverished, Chinese will gain access to electricity through these new government efforts.
