Canadian Solar Energy Policy Successes

November 21, 2003 [] The Canadian Solar Industry Association (CanSIA) announced the success of their recent annual forum. This year 25 speakers and a full roster of panel discussions were enjoyed by 115 delegates over three days. Several government departments, companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were in attendance. Key announcements include: A donation-based survey showed that delegates believed Canada should increase public funding for solar energy from the current (2001) CAD$0.10 (US$0.07) per capita to CAD$1.00 (US$0.76) This would bring Canada up to 4th from its current position of 17th of the 18 reporting International Energy Agency countries. Natural Resources Canada’s EnerGuide for Houses program announced that it can now model solar domestic hot water applications and allow them to be included in Retrofit for Houses Incentive grants to homeowners. Natural Resources Canada expects to be able to do the same with photovoltaic applications in the near future.
