California Solar Industry: Stay Informed, Be Involved

With the implementation date for the California Solar Initiative (CSI) approaching on January 1, 2007, it is important for members of the California solar business community to be informed about the impacts the program will have on the industry.

There are many issues that need to be addressed by the industry to ensure a smooth transition into the CSI. Some of those issues are: — How moving to an expected performance based incentive (EPBI) program will affect a potential customer’s decision to invest in solar. — How the PV Calculator will fairly determine rebate levels for different geographic locations around the state. — Whether solar owners should have the right to retain their renewable energy certificates (RECs). — How municipal utilities will comply under the CSI and help the California solar market grow. Indeed, this is a very complicated program, so it is crucial that the California solar business community gets acquainted with the CSI and addresses any potential issues before January 1, 2007. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the California Energy Commission or the Public Utilities Commission.
