AstroPower’s Ex CEO Hosts Solar Lecture

February 10, 2004 [] A colloquium on energy and environmental policy is set for noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center, at the University of Delaware (UD). Titled “Solar Electric Power: Fulfilling the Promise with Effective Energy Policies,” the colloquium features a lecture by Allen Barnett, senior policy fellow at UD’s Center for Energy and Environmental Policy. Past president and CEO of AstroPower and a veteran solar energy researcher, Barnett will focus on the benefits of solar electric power versus traditional means of generating electricity. Despite High expectations AstroPower has been wrought with financial trouble, recently declaring chapter 11 in order to reorganize and sell its assets. Barnett serves on the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Center for Photovoltaics Advisory Board and the Solar Energy Industries Association Board and has authored and coauthored more than 200 technical papers. Throughout the course of his career, Barnett also has been awarded 24 U.S. patents. The colloquium, which is sponsored by the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy, the Graduate Program in Environmental and Energy Policy and the College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy, is free.
