Active Power providing 3 MW of backup power to government datacenter

Austin, Texas, April 11, 2011 — Active Power, manufacturer of critical backup power systems and continuous infrastructure solutions, has shipped three high efficiency CleanSource 1,200 kVA UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems for an agency within the U.S. government.

The multi-megawatt UPS deployment will provide critical power protection to one of the agency’s mission critical datacenters located on the east coast. All three systems will be installed in the second quarter of 2011.

“Space comes at a high premium in a datacenter,” said Martin Olsen, vice president and general manager, Global Sales and Business Development at Active Power. “We’ve integrated our patented flywheel energy storage technology and UPS electronics into one single cabinet so the system is extremely power dense, delivering up to twice the power in the same space of a conventional system.

“At the same time, we’re able to deliver critical backup power at an overall economic advantage due to the system’s high efficiency, up to 96 percent energy efficient even at 40 percent load which is a typical load for a UPS system.”

Active Power provides efficient, reliable and green critical power solutions and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems to enable business continuity in the event of power disturbances.

Founded in 1992, Active Power’s flywheel-based UPS systems protect critical operations in data centers, healthcare facilities, manufacturing plants, broadcast stations and governmental agencies in more than 40 countries. With expert power system engineers and worldwide services and support, Active Power ensures organizations have the power to perform.
