200 MW Solar Tower Slated for Australia

July 8, 2002 [SolarAccess.com] A solar tower power station, which is to be constructed about 65 kilometers northwest of Mildura in the state of Victoria in Australia, will have the world’s tallest structure – a one kilometer high solar tower. A surrounding greenhouse skirt of solar collector panels will be five kilometers wide. This power station will generate 200 MW of electricity, enough to supply up to 200,000 typical homes, at an estimated project cost of A$670 million (US$375 million).
