SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Oct. 15, 2002 — Weathernews Americas Inc. has recently launched PowerCast, its new weather risk management system.
PowerCast was built specifically for energy companies with generation, transmission & distribution assets in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) North American Electric Reliability Council (NERC) region.
“Not only do energy companies need fast, accurate weather information to plan for trading and marketing activities, but they also need to understand how weather will impact utilization of facilities, customer service and risk management of assets,” said Christopher Keyes, General Manager of Energy and Structured Risk Services at Weathernews Americas Inc. “We designed PowerCast to help them facilitate these daily operational and economic activities.”
PowerCast is a Web-based application that offers site-specific forecast information and climatological data to help managers, planners and load forecasters make more informed operational decisions.
The system utilizes Weathernews’ proprietary west coast forecasts to provide clients with the fast, accurate, regional information they need to understand how the weather will impact individual generation facilities, transmission lines and load centers. Clients can rely on these forecasts to predict when power usage will fluctuate and when extreme weather conditions will hit their operations.
PowerCast is available immediately with site-specific weather information for the WECC region. Other NERC region locations are being added for future product upgrades.
