The U.S. grid operator Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) announced last week that it selected Allegra Nottage as its first chief diversity officer, after an extensive nationwide search.
Nottage brings 20 years of progressive experience as a human resources leader with expertise in talent management, change management and Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). Nottage will be based at the company’s headquarters in Carmel, Ind., and serve on the operating committee.
Nottage’s D&I experience covers a wide range from standard areas such as recruiting to more advanced areas of inclusion and equity such as management accountability. Most recently, she served as vice president, head of human resources and talent management at an Indianapolis- based insurance claim management firm. In this role, she created the company’s first people function with a D&I lens, and while serving on the executive leadership team, helped shape the company’s mission, vision, values and strategy. Nottage and her team implemented the company’s first ever Inclusion Index to capture actionable data from surveys to inform decisions and improvements needed to create an inclusive workplace.
“I am excited to be selected to lead the D&I effort at MISO. I commend the leadership team for their passion and longstanding commitment to this important work and look forward to learning more about the organization. From my very first discussion with the leadership team during the recruiting process, I knew that MISO was a special company and I feel honored to be here,” said Nottage.
Nottage was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, and through her teenage years had the opportunity to live in many locations as her family was stationed at various U.S. military bases such as Walter Reed in Washington, D.C, West Point Academy in New York and Fitzsimons in Colorado. She earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Wilmington University. Allegra is married with three children, and lives in the Greater Indianapolis area.
