FERC approves Consumers Energy’s request to transfer electric transmission system

The transfer is the first step in Consumers Energy’s plan to sell its transmission assets to a third party to meet the requirements of FERC Order 2000. Michigan Public Act 141 of 2000, the electric industry restructuring law signed by Governor Engler in June, also requires that Michigan’s investor-owned utilities sell or transfer control of their transmission systems to an independent organization by the end of 2001.

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Jan. 19, 2001 (PRNewswire) – Niagara Mohawk Holdings Inc. (NYSE: NMK) shareholders today overwhelmingly approved a plan to merge their company with National Grid plc. The closing of the merger remains subject to numerous regulatory approvals.
