The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) invites expressions of interest from consultants to serve on panels to study development of the Inga hydroelectric complex on the Congo River and transmission lines to deliver its power. Responses are due December 17.
The 350-MW Inga 1 and 1,424-MW Inga 2 hydroelectric projects currently produce a total of only 500 MW and are undergoing refurbishment. Additionally, the proposed 4,300-MW Inga 3 project is considered a step toward development of a 40,000-MW Grand Inga hydroelectric complex.
The DRC’s utility, Societe Nationale d’Electricite (SNEL) invites expressions of interest to serve on three independent expert panels:
- Plants and transmission lines — including an expert in water management and dams and an expert in high-voltage AC and DC long lines to advise on technical aspects;
- Financing and agreements — including experts in arranging financing for major infrastructure, in legal aspects of developing institutional arrangements, and in structuring projects;
- Environmental and social issues — including experts in environmental and social assessment and recommendations.
Expressions of interest and qualifications are due to the address below by 3 p.m. December 17, labeled “Expert en (indicate specialty), Candidat au Panel (indicate panel).”
