Metrix awards Elster smart metering contract

Raleigh, NC, Aug. 5, 2008 — Elster has been awarded a contract from Metrix for a full-scale deployment of its EnergyAxis System in Auckland, New Zealand. The system will feature 300,000 REX smart meters built on a new meter platform conforming to IEC standards.

Metrix will use the EnergyAxis System to collect interval usage data daily across its smart meter population, which they predict will allow the utility to offer value-added services to retail electric providers and consumers. In the future, retail electricity providers may use the interval metering data to offer flexible rate plans and empower consumer-driven energy conservation.
