RAM Mobile Data recently signed a contract with Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) to equip its field service representatives with wireless data communications capabilities that will help to streamline the utility`s field service operations. Under the terms of the contract, San Francisco-based PG&E will secure wireless data communications services from RAM Mobile Data. Mobile Data Solutions Inc. is providing the software and interface to the RAM Mobile Data network.
GEOMAX International Inc. (Hull, Quebec, Canada), in collaboration with UNIPHICC Company Ltd. of Bangkok and Kasetsart University, has started work on a pilot project to manage the water resources of three Thai provinces. The one-year project for the Royal Irrigation Department will be undertaken at the Faculty of Engineering`s new GIS Center at Kasetsart University. The GEOMAX software will enable irrigation engineers to develop models of the effects of rainfall on the reservoirs and the water distribution system.
Centra Gas Manitoba has selected Alliance Systems Inc.`s (Itasca, Ill.) Resource Management System to improve the utility`s natural gas emergency and service response time by managing the workforce more effectively. The system relies on client-server technology, operating within two-way radio-data networks. The system electronically links Centra`s mobile workforce with dispatchers and corporate data systems using wireless data technology and mobile terminals.
Allegheny Power awarded a Field Data Inventory services contract to GeoResearch Inc. (Bethesda, Md.). GeoResearch will equip field crews with its patented GeoLink Field Mapping System and the company`s GPS Workhorse receivers to collect geographically referenced electric facility feature and attribute data for Allegheny Power`s AM/FM system. At the conclusion of the project, GeoResearch field crews will have mapped an estimated 560,000 utility poles and 202,000 overhead distribution transformers in West Virginia, South Central Pennsylvania and Southern Ohio over a 12-month period.
