The multi-nation Senegal River management agency invites expressions of interest from consultants to develop a master plan for a transmission grid system accommodating anticipated new hydroelectric projects. Responses are due September 22.
The solicitation is one of several planned by Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du Fleuve Senegal (OMVS), which includes Senegal, Guinea, Mali, and Mauritania. (HNN 7/16/08) OMVS received a credit of US$110 million from the World Bank’s International Development Association for the Senegal River integrated management program. (HNN 3/11/08) The program is to include studies of five hydroelectric projects.
In the current solicitation, OMVS seeks a development plan for the OMVS grid system, including a study of the possibilities of extending the existing network to proposed hydroelectric project sites. Work is to include economic and financial evaluation, establishment of finance mechanisms, and examination of environmental effects of development.
