Princeton, N.J., November 11, 2010 — Reliant Energy, the retail electricity business of Princeton-based NRG Energy Inc., is expanding its retail electricity sales business to several states served by the PJM Interconnection.
The company has received licenses and is actively working with prospective commercial, industrial and institutional customers in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Reliant has also applied for a license in New Jersey.
“Moving into the PJM region is a natural extension of the success of our complementary retail and generation businesses in Texas, where we are the largest supplier in the country’s largest C&I market,” said Jason Few, President of Reliant Energy. “With our physical generation assets in PJM, our experience serving some of the most energy-intensive businesses in the nation and the opportunity to serve our national accounts in more places, we are already offering clients in the Northeast innovative, customized electricity supply services.”
NRG has over 1,600 MW of generation capacity in the region served by PJM, the regional electricity transmission organization (RTO) that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia.
With the combination of wholesale generation and retail electricity service, Reliant offers innovative power supply solutions that allow businesses and industry to better manager their electricity use.
The expanded business is managed by the same team that manages the Texas C&I business, with the addition of an experienced sales team based in the Northeast region. The company also intends to file license applications to serve Delaware and other states in the PJM region in the future.
Reliant Energy provides electricity and energy services to more than 1.5 million retail customers—including homes, small and large businesses, manufacturing facilities, government entities and institutions across Texas.
