Energy efficiency stakeholders in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic states now have a one-stop resource to analyze, compare and/or aggregate state energy efficiency program data using the Regional Energy Efficiency Database (REED).
REED is a product of the Regional Evaluation Measurement and Verification Forum (EM&V Forum), developed with the assistance of the Boston-based Peregrine Energy Group.
REED is the first database to publicly provide data on energy efficiency program savings and associated costs, avoided carbon dioxide emissions and other harmful air pollutants, and job impacts across multiple jurisdictions, with the purpose of supporting state and regional energy and environmental policies in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
The website, now open to the public at https://www.neep-reed.org, allows users to easily generate state-level energy efficiency reports, and download underlying program-specific data.
The database currently includes 2011 electric and gas energy efficiency program data for 8 states: Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. Annual energy efficiency data for year 2012 from these states, along with Delaware and the District of Columbia, will be added to REED this fall.
An objective of REED is to help bridge the use of common energy efficiency data to inform a range of policy needs, including energy, economic and air quality planning, as these policies increasingly look to energy efficiency investments as a least cost strategy to meeting state and regional goals.
Funded by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Environmental Protection Agency and the Forum states, REED can serve as a model for other parts of the country to build a common platform for reporting energy efficiency program data.
NEEP is a regional non-profit whose mission is to serve the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic to accelerate energy efficiency in the building sector through public policy, program strategies and education. The Regional Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification Forum, a project facilitated by NEEP supports the development and use of consistent protocols to evaluate, measure, verify and report the savings, costs and emission impacts of energy efficiency and other demand-side resources around the region.
