Ameren Transmission said it completed its $215 million Metro South Reliability Project near St. Louis.

The multiyear project was finished six months ahead of schedule. It is part of Ameren Missouri’s so-called Smart Energy Plan, which is designed to improve reliability.

The project reconstructed around 10 miles of 138 kV transmission line in St. Louis County and in the City of St. Louis. The line connects infrastructure from Shrewsbury to Bella Villa and crosses the Mississippi River into Illinois.

The project included building two new transmission towers on both sides of the Mississippi River. The towers carry two transmission lines to create double circuiting, providing what is expected to be a second power supply to help prevent outages and increase energy capacity.

Ameren Transmission also is working with the Wabash Valley Power Alliance to build a new, 15-mile 138 kV transmission line and substations to serve local communities in southeast Missouri. The line will connect two new substations in Perry and Cape Girardeau Counties. The project’s proposed in-service date is December 2023.
