The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) plans to seek bids for transmission and telecommunications as part of a hydropower-based southern Africa power market project.
With World Bank financing of US$178 million, DRC’s utility, Societe Nationale d’Electricite, plans to procure consultants, equipment, and services. It is one of several programs to deliver power from the Inga hydroelectric complex, which is to be rehabilitated and expanded on the Congo River. (HNN 4/24/08)
The government plans to seek bids for rehabilitation of transmission lines between Inga, Kolwezi, and Kasumbalesa; installation of a fiber-optic telecommunications system linking those locations; and community infrastructure services along the transmission line routes.
