The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform a detailed inspection and diagnosis of 2,400 kilometers of transmission lines serving the hydropower-based Southern Africa Power Market Project (SAPMP). Responses are due October 22.
With World Bank financing of US$178 million, DRC’s utility, Societe Nationale d’Electricite (SNEL), plans to procure equipment and services for work under the SAPMP program to deliver power from the 350-MW Inga 1 and 1,424-MW Inga 2 hydro projects, which are to be rehabilitated and expanded on the Congo River. SNEL currently seeks a consultant to carry out a helicopter overflight inspection of:
o 2,000 kilometers of 500-kilovolt line and 8,526 pylons from the substation the Inga complex (HNN 9/23/08) to the city of Kolwezi; and
o 424 kilometers of 220-kV line and 2,189 pylons from the substation of the 248-MW Nseke (or Seke) project (HNN 12/21/07) to the city of Kasumbalesa.
The consultant is to establish technical specifications for transmission line work to be incorporated into a solicitation for bids to rehabilitate the grid system. The work is to require 20 weeks.
Expressions of interest and qualifications, in French, are due by mail or e-mail to the address below by October 22.
