Argan said Nov. 10 that its unit, Gemma Power Systems, has received from Moxie Freedom a full notice to proceed with engineering, procurement and construction activities for a 1,000 MW combined-cycle plant to be located in Luzerne County, Pa.
Construction on the facility will begin this year with completion scheduled in 2018.
“We’re excited to continue our relationship with Moxie Freedom and we look forward to constructing another large scale, state of the art power facility in Pennsylvania,” said Argan Chairman and CEO Rainer Bosselmann.
Argan’s primary business is designing and building energy plants through its Gemma Power Systems unit.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued an air permit for the power plant in September. Moxie has indicated that it plans to use General Electric turbine technology for the plant.
Moxie plans to sell power into the PJM Interconnection marketplace.
