Paris, June 18, 2012 — Alstom signed three contracts with a total value of about $12.6 million to further modernize Poland’s fleet of steam power plants and industrial plants.
Alstom has secured a contract for the modernization of unit 3 of the 1,492 MW Opole Power Plant located in Brzezie, Opole Province. PGE Gornictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna S.A.’s order for their Opole plant includes a modernization overhaul of the steam turbine and the delivery of an electrohydraulic control system. The upgrade will extend the turbine’s lifetime. The unit is scheduled to be commissioned by end 2012.
The second contract from Zespol Elektrocieplowni Wroclawskich Kogeneracja S.A includes the delivery of a new generator rotor for unit 2 of their 110 MW Czechnica’s Heat Power Plant, located in the Lower Silesia Province.
This contract includes upgrading the bearings as well as the supervision of erection and commissioning of the generator. The modernization will be completed by end 2013 and eliminates the need for pre-heating of the rotor before starting the generator; thus allowing faster delivery of electrical power to the grid.
The last contract from KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. involves the delivery of an electrostatic precipitator for the Glogow Copper Smelter, also located in the Lower Silesia Province in the western part of the country. The order includes the delivery; erection and commissioning of the ESP, which will further reduce the smelter’s impact on the environment.
Once the installation is completed by mid 2014, Alstom’s ESP will remove the particulate matters from the complex process gases. The acid gases — in high concentration — will be taken out in an absorber located downstream the ESP and converted into sulfuric acid, which is an additional source of revenue for KGHM.
These contracts represent a further consolidation of Alstom’s retrofit and modernization experience in Poland and follow orders worth about $82 million for the modernization of the Polaniec Power Plant in April 2012 as well as contracts worth about $19 million to upgrade the Kozienice and Lodz coal-fired power plants, which were signed in March of this year.
