SMA Adds a New Sunny Boy with a 10-Year Warranty

The Sunny Boy SB3300 by SMA America features a sealed, powder-coated cast aluminum enclosure that’s lighter and more rugged than previous models of Sunny Boy inverters. According to the company, the durable, lightweight design allows for installation in harsh environments and improves heat transfer. The enclosure keeps control and power electronics separate. The SB3300 introduces SMA’s Opticool airflow technology, which cools the power electronics by drawing air through the bottom of the enclosure. The SB3300 features a built-in meter that displays operational status and the amount of solar energy being produced. The SB3300 is designed for home use, and will operate with newer, larger PV modules. The SB3300 is compatible with SMA’s newest data communications options, including the Sunny Beam and WebBox.

These new SMA inverters incorporate a cast aluminum housing used to separate the control and power electronics. This new chassis design is incredibly rugged, lightweight and weatherproof. The power electronics compartment integrates SMA’s new Opticool (TM) airflow technology where cool air is drawn in through the bottom of the enclosure by convection, drawn around the power electronics where the air absorbs heat and is then released through a side vent. When required, this process is assisted by a temperature controlled fan. The built in meter displays system status as well as the solar energy being produced by the power plant and other key information on the LCD screen.
