April, 18, 2003 [SolarAccess.com] EPA has just posted a new online calculator, Power Profiler, which helps businesses and consumers understand the emissions impacts of their electricity use. With a few clicks of a mouse, Power Profiler provides location-specific information about the emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide associated with electricity use. Power Profiler also translates emissions impacts into commonly understood concepts such as trees planted or numbers of cars. And a new feature coming soon will tell consumers and businesses about green power options available in their community. For most commercial entities, purchased electricity is the largest source of carbon emissions — buying green power is a quick and easy way to reduce emissions. EPA’s Green Power Partnership, a new voluntary program working to standardize green power procurement as part of best practice environmental management, now includes 115 Partners with a combined total commitment to 680,000 MWh of green power annually.
