National Semiconductor debuts SaaS for better solar energy harvest

SolarMagic MYPVDATA Solar Operations Center (SOC) is software as a service (SaaS) that helps users analyze data collected from the solar array by delivering meaningful information through an easy-to-use web-interface, so maximum solar energy can be harvested.

(December 8, 2010) — National Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE:NSM), high-performance analog semiconductor designer and manufacturer, released the SolarMagic MYPVDATA Solar Operations Center (SOC). MYPVDATA SOC is software as a service (SaaS) that helps users analyze data collected from the solar array by delivering meaningful information through an easy-to-use web-interface, so maximum solar energy can be harvested.

Four new tools for analyzing PV-system operation:

  • Performance Analysis – Analyze system performance relative to environmental conditions.
  • Progress Analysis – Track production relative to a configured budget and predict future performance.
  • Symmetry Analysis – Display energy harvest by string (or other unit). Indicates imbalances in the arrays. Quickly detects issues such as excessive dirt and partial shade.
  • Data Analysis – Compare and perform calculations on any data points to create custom graphs and reports.

National’s SolarMagic MYPVDATA SOC makes any data point in the system available and helps interpret this data, in a graphical real-time graphing and reporting web-interface. In real-world applications involving shade or other types of mismatch, a comprehensive monitoring and management system can help system owners improve energy harvest by as much as 20 percent.

MYPVDATA SOC is now included with ongoing service subscriptions for all current commercial customers. We are adding advanced analytics to our monitoring and management product, said Peter Rexelius, sales and marketing manager for National’s Solar Solutions Business Unit. “Solar operators and financiers can now realize the highest kWh performance while optimizing on operation and maintenance costs across multiple installations.”

MYPVDATA SOC, photovoltaic system monitoring products and the analog-intensive power management in-panel chipset are all members of National’s SolarMagic product portfolio that work together to improve power output, reliability and cost-effectiveness of solar systems.
