Acciona Introduces 3-MW Turbine

Acciona Windpower unveiled its new AW-3000 wind turbine at Windpower 2008 in Houston, Texas. The 3-megawatt (MW) capacity turbine will be manufactured with three different rotor diameters and will operate at variable speeds with an independent pitch system for each blade.

The turbine generates electricity at medium voltage (12 kilovolts) in order to reduce production losses. It is based on the same technology as Acciona’s AW-1500 turbine and incorporates many of the same features.

The machine also includes a control and power unit, a condition monitoring system and an automatic lubrications system. The AW-3000 will be available to the market in 2009. Deliveries are expected to being in the second half of 2010.
