Eco Wave Power, a provider of onshore wave energy technology, announced that Eco Wave Power and EDF Renewables IL, in collaboration with the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the municipal company Atarim, will inaugurate Israel’s first pilot station for generating electricity from sea waves on Thursday, December 5, at Warehouse 2 in Jaffa Port.

The Eco Wave Power project was built in collaboration with EDF Renewables Israel, supported by the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Energy and Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality.

“The launch of Israel’s first wave energy power plant is more than just a technological achievement—it’s a powerful statement about the future we envision,” said Inna Braverman, Founder and CEO of Eco Wave Power. “This project at Jaffa Port represents a historic milestone in the global renewable energy journey, proving that sea waves can be a viable, clean, and consistent source of electricity.”

The wave energy system is comprised of 10 floaters along the Port of Jaffa’s existing breakwater. Each floater connects directly to Eco Wave Power’s land-based energy conversion unit, which enables easy access for operational maintenance and upgrades.

In addition to providing clean energy to Israel’s electrical grid, the EWP-EDF One power station will serve as a public education center. Eco Wave Power announced that it received the GREENinMED grant from the EU, which will fund the creation and installation of a “unique educational experience” at the Port of Jaffa station.

In July 2022, Eco Wave Power announced it had commenced real conditions test runs on the EWP-EDF One Project to examine the operation of the mechanical and hydraulic subsystems. Last year, the company announced it entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Israeli National Electric Company (IEC), based on the official feed-in tariff that was set for its EWP-EDF One project at the Port of Jaffa.

The EWP-EDF One wave energy station was officially connected to Israel’s national electrical grid in August 2023 with an installed capacity of 100 kW.

Last week, Eco Wave Power released its Q3 2024 results, highlighting a power station sale in Taiwan, the EWP-EDF One project, a share buyback, and more.
