Voith Hydro to equip Kargi hydropower plant in Turkey

Voith Hydro will supply the complete electromechanical equipment for Statkraft’s Kargi hydropower plant in Turkey, Voith reported.

The 102-MW turnkey scheme is scheduled to be completed by end of 2013 and will generate enough electricity to power 150,000 Turkish homes, a press release states.

Being the consortium leader, Voith Hydro is responsible for the engineering, supply and commissioning of two vertical Francis turbines with a rated capacity of 51.8 MW each. The scope of supply furthermore involves generators, inlet valves and plant control systems. The contract’s value was not disclosed.

Located in the Corum province, northeast of the Turkish capital Ankara, Kargi hydro plant is Statkraft’s second power plant in Turkey. The plant will utilize the water of the Kizilirmak, Turkey’s longest river. The project is developed by Akel Enerji A.S., a subsidiary of Statkraft Enerji A.S., which is owned 100 percent by Statkraft A.S.

In other news, Voith Hydro announced recently it will overhaul a total of 13 hydro generators for the Swiss utility Kraftwerke Hinterrhein AG.
