Tractebel announces online course for hydropower

HYDROVISION virtual

On April 20, experts with Tractebel will share their knowledge about hydropower and make it available through a massive open on-line course or MOOC.

Tractebel says it wants “to make the world of hydropower accessible to those who wish to learn more about it. We are convinced that hydropower can significantly contribute to the energy transition.”

The online training is intended for engineers and students, managers and business developers, or government agencies. It offers learning content adapted to non-experts willing to become familiar with the hydropower world, Tractebel says.

The MOOC content includes 16 sequences divided into five sections:

  • Introduction to hydropower energy
  • Hydropower projects: the basics
  • Building a reservoir of potential energy: dam technologies
  • Overcoming risks: from construction to operation
  • Designing & operating a hydropower plant: technical aspects and revenue models

Tractebel says it will take four weeks for learners to go through the whole course and obtain a certificate of achievement at the end.

Tractebel works in the design of dams and hydropower projects.

“This project has been a real technical and human adventure! We thought it up for all those who wish to better understand hydropower and we brought in our dedicated experts to cover each domain,” said François Halgand, technical director business line water.
