Nicaragua’s Ministerio de Energia y Minas (MEM) has awarded a contract for turnkey equipment supply for the 220-kW Salto Negro hydroelectric project at Villa Sandino in Chontales Department.

MEM awarded the contract valued at US$473,360 to winning bidder Empresa Hidro Energia S.A. of Guatemala.

With funding from Swiss, German, Dutch, United Nations, and World Bank sources, the government is developing the small hydro project, under a program of small-scale hydropower development in off-grid areas. (HNN 6/25/07)

Nicaragua awarded an earlier contract under the program to Empresa Hidro Energia to equip the 212-kW El Naranjo project. (HNN 4/25/07)
