The owners and operators of the world’s largest hydroelectric power plants face unique challenges, and opportunities to gather with their “peers” can be scarce.
For the fourth time, HYDROVISION International is organizing its Global Symposium for Large Hydropower Plant Operators, which provides a unique opportunity to exchange best practices, lessons learned and solutions developed.
This complimentary, invitation-only forum allows attendees to share valuable information with and gain insights from other large hydro operators across the globe. At last year’s forum in Charlotte, N.C., U.S., participants included the Bureau of Reclamation, Electricite de France, Itaipu Binacional, Manitoba Hydro, New York Power Authority, Tennessee Valley Authority and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 2022, other participants included China Three Gorges/China Yangtze Power and Copel.
The first such symposium, held in 2016, provided content and connections for Reclamation, China Three Gorges, China Yangtze Power Co., Hydro-Quebec, Itaipu Binacional and Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority.
The 2024 symposium will take place on Tuesday, July 16 in Denver, Colo., U.S. This timing, the day before HYDROVISION International 2024 kicks off, also will allow attendees to take advantage of the breadth of education provided at this global hydro industry event. The 2023 event attracted about 1,200 attendees representing more than 50 countries. HYDROVISION International offers unparalleled networking opportunities and about 50 content sessions with insights from about 100 speakers over two full days.
The large hydro symposium will feature several content sessions, delivered by the attendees and covering topics uniquely of interest for large hydro facilities. Some topics from 2023 included using new technologies to prevent asset anomalies, NYPA’s Next Generation Niagara Project and TVA’s Hydro Life Extension Program. And 2022 sessions covered digital techniques for hydroelectric project management, optimizing the hydraulic turbine operating zone, dealing with workplace challenges and much more.
