ENGESP, a Brazilian energy company, announced a strategic partnership with HYDROGRID, a digitalization company based in Vienna, to optimize the operational efficiency and sustainability of the PCH Porto Franco hydropower plant.

This collaboration will focus on addressing critical market needs such as water management, spill reduction and managing weather volatility through digital solutions.

“Implementing HYDROGRID Insight is part of our mission to enhance the efficiency of our hydropower operations,” said Rodolfo Martin, CEO at Engenharia São Patrício. “By reducing spillage and optimizing data management, we aim to set a new standard for hydropower efficiency in the region.”

Weather volatility and spill management are significant challenges for the local hydropower operations. The ‘HYDROGRID Insight’ platform includes forecasting tools that are meant to be used to manage the impacts of unpredictable weather patterns, with the intention of ensuring optimal water usage and minimizing spillage.

The project is part of ENGESP’s broader strategy to digitalize and optimize its entire hydropower fleet, to achieve more sustainable and efficient energy production.

“Our collaboration with ENGESP highlights our commitment to leveraging advanced technology for sustainable energy solutions,” said Janice Goodenough, CEO of HYDROGRID. “Such partnerships are the key to the successful water management of the future, particularly when it comes to in minimizing spillage and optimizing resource use.”
