LONG BEACH, Calif., May 23, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) — ECI Telecom announced its optimized and future proof solution for the utilities industry. It provides utilities with a carrier class solution and a complete migration path to next generation applications and services. It can start by supporting the internal needs of the utility network and legacy services such as SCADA, voice circuit telephony and power system protection, and then migrate to broadband applications and value-added commercial service offerings such as LAN/WAN, L2/L3 VPN, VoIP, video surveillance, IP-Based SCADA and Storage Area Networking (SAN).
To enable UTelcos to become more competitive, the ECI XDM product line provides one of the most complete multi-service transport platforms, which includes a single network management system for end-to-end control that reduces total cost of ownership. Based on its flexible architecture that supports advanced services like Layer 2 Ethernet, Layer 2 VPNs, VoIP and video, the XDM can scale to support the need for higher bandwidth services.
Unlike other platforms that require a specific chassis and network element for each transport technology, ECI’s XDM converged solution supports all transport technologies: DWDM, CWDM, SDH/SONET, PDH/Async and Ethernet, including Fast Ethernet and GigE. UTelcos receive the flexibility and robustness they need for emerging high bandwidth requirements, while keeping costs low. The XDM platforms can be right sized to match current and future traffic requirements supporting the needs of different sub-stations and data centers from the network access to the metro and regional/long-haul on a converged platform.
ECI’s Carrier Class solution allows for many options that were previously unattainable on a single platform. For example, UTelcos can now address fiber exhaust, migrate from legacy to next-generation SDH/SONET, provide native Ethernet services and support highly demanding internal networking needs over a single, extremely reliable platform.
“We live in a time when utility companies need to be prepared for any situation creating great demands on the network infrastructure,” said Eran Dariel, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Optical Networks Division of ECI. “Their networks require additional security and reliability, but at the same time the UTelcos need to continually develop and offer new services. These goals can be accomplished within a very reasonable budget based on ECI’s flexible, consolidated, yet highly-reliable optical platform.”
Utility companies whether electrical, gas or water operators need to upgrade their networks to address expansion and migration issues, while offering new services and keeping capital expenses under control. With ECI’s Multi Service Transport Platform (MSTP) and single architecture, UTelcos have the flexibility to expand and plan for the future of their networks and be more competitive.
ECI’s XDM platform has been deployed by utility companies worldwide, including, among others, Banverket in Sweden, REN in Portugal, JEA in the United States, Tata Power in India, and China State Power.
