BC Hydro awards balance of plant electrical contract for 1,100-MW Site C hydroelectric

BC Hydro has awarded the $128 million balance of plant contract for electrical work at the 1,100-MW Site C hydroelectric project to F&M Installations Ltd.

The company will be responsible for all remaining electrical work required to complete the construction of the generating station and spillways, along with other related facilities at Site C.

F&M Installations, based in Nanaimo, is an industrial contractor specializing in generation, transmission and distribution projects for electric utility providers and has a 15-year history of working on BC Hydro projects. This includes the Site C substation, Mica Dam Units 5 and 6 Project, John Hart Generating Station Replacement Project and the isophase bus replacement at GM Shrum Generating Station.

The contractor will mobilize on site in the fall of 2021 and work is scheduled to be completed in 2024. F&M Installations is committed to creating Indigenous and apprentice employment and training opportunities.

The Site C project is under construction on the Peace River and is anticipated to begin operation in 2025.
