Ocana small hydro project commercial operations expected in October

Commercial operations of Ecuadorian state generator Elecaustro’s 26-MW Ocana hydro project are expected to begin in October, a company official told wire services.

Ocana will use water from the Canar River in the province of the same name and produce 203GWh/year. Construction began in 2008.

In other news, Brazilian utility sector regulator Aneel has authorized test operations at the 11.4-MW Areia small hydro project, according to wire reports.

The plant is owned by local firm Areia Energia. The facility is located in the northern state of Tocantins.
