Flovel announced it has commissioned the 7 MW Upper Suri Khola hydropower project, on the Suri River in Nepal.

The small hydro project was commissioned and synchronized to the grid on Nov. 25, 2023, and the plant was handed over to customer for commercial operation.

The project is owned and operated by Makar Jitumaya Suri Hydropower Ltd. and is located in Gaurishankar, Dolakha District, Bagmati Province, Nepal. It is a run-of-river project with a gross head of 422 m. Water from the intake is diverted to the water conveyance system through a gravel trap, settling basin and head pond. Water is fed to the powerhouse, which contains two 3.5 MW turbine-generator units, through two headrace pipes and a panestock.

Flovel’s scope of work included the design, manufacturing and supply of horizontal Pelton turbines, main inlet valves, generators, digital governors, complete electrical and mechanical balance-of-plant equipment on a water-to-wire basis and supervision services of erection, testing and commissioning.

Flovel has worked on three other hydropower projects customer, commissioning the 6.4 MW Suri Khola hydropower project in April 2022. The other two projects, 5.5 MW Sagu Khola 1 and 20 MW Sagu Khola, are under various stages of execution.

Flovel is a full-line supplier of electromechanical equipment and services for small and medium-sized hydro power plants.
