Voith Hydro has won a contract to supply hydro turbines and other parts for the 22-MW Agua Zarca small hydropower project.
The plant, which is being developed by Desarrollos Energeticos S.A. (DESA), is Honduras’ largest small hydropower project to date and is being implemented as part of the country’s move from fossil fuels to renewables, Voith said.
“The Agua Zarca project is very important for Voith Hydro since it will allow us to partake in one of the most important efforts associated with the transition of the country’s energy mix,” Voith Hydro Brazil President and CEO Osvaldo San Martin said.
As per the contract, Voith Hydro will supply three 7.52-MW turbines, generators, protection valves, speed governors, voltage regulators, medium voltage cubicles and a high voltage substation. The company will also be responsible for erection and commissioning supervision services.
HydroWorld.com reported earlier this month that the Voith-equipped 22.8-MW Cubujuqui project in Costa Rica had begun commercial operation.
