A plan to develop a small hydroelectric project at the Falls Lake Dam has been halted by the Raleigh city council, HydroWorld.com has learned.
The city received preliminary permits with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to develop a 3.2 MW hydropower plant at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-owned dam in 2010.
The city then began searching for a consultant to develop what was estimated to be a US7 million project, though the council decided this week to end the project’s development.
City officials said the decision was made based largely on the projected time it would take to recoup its investment in the plant.
