Operations have resumed at the 200-MW Agus 6 hydropower plant after the Philippines’ National Power Corp. finished plugging a leak in the dam’s blow-off pipe.
The underwater repairs were necessitated after the leak was discovered this past March through a joint effort of Napcor’s Dams, Reservoirs and Waterways Management Division and Mindanao Generation plant maintenance personnel.
NPC said that a team was able to seal the leak using a mixture of rocks and cohesive binding material, providing what company officials said is a long-term and permanent solution.
The Philippines’ Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (Psalm) announced seven companies were vying to provide upgrades to two of Agus 6’s turbines this past August.
