Manitoba Hydro seeks proposals to supply and install gates and other equipment at the 200-MW Wuskwatim hydroelectric project on the Burntwood River in northern Manitoba. Bids in two solicitations are due in September.
In one tender (No. 014021), Manitoba Hydro calls for proposals to design, manufacture, supply, and install intake gates, guides, and hoists. Proposals are due Sept. 20.
In a second tender (No. 014022), the utility seeks proposals to design, manufacture, supply, and install spillway gates, guides, hoists, and a spillway stoplog monorail crane. Proposals are due Sept. 27.
Construction of Wuskwatim’s infrastructure began in August 2006 with work on a 48-kilometer access road to the powerhouse site at Taskinigup Falls. Manitoba Hydro also named General Electric Canada to design, manufacture, and supply turbine-generator equipment.
Wuskwatim Power L.P., a partnership of Manitoba Hydro and Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, is developing the C$1.3 billion (US$1.23 billion) project. It expects Wuskwatim will be completed in 2012.
In addition to the two new open tenders, Manitoba Hydro is considering proposals submitted in July for a general civil contractor to build the project. (HNN 7/17/07)
