The government of Laos seeks expressions of interest from consultants to help develop a rural electrification master plan that includes hydropower and other renewable resource data. Responses are due January 26.
With a grant from the World Bank’s Global Environment Facility, Laos’ Department of Electricity seeks consultants to advise on expansion of the national rural electrification database and development of a rural electrification master plan covering the entire country.
The agency said the rural electrification database needs more data including hydropower and biomass resources, and village-specific information. The consultant would help define information needed and apply data to various rural electrification planning scenarios in order to formulate a plan to provide power to villages through 2020.

World Bank seeks water-energy study for Laotian town
In separate activity, the World Bank seeks expressions of interest by January 23 from consultants to perform a technical and market feasibility survey on providing services to a Laotian town.
Employing a trust fund from the WSP-East Asia/Pacific: Netherlands Child Trust Fund, the bank seeks a consultant to carry out the SaiNaTee feasibility study in Samphan District Town, Phongsaly Province, Laos.
The World Bank said the survey is required to identify possibilities and constraints for maximizing benefits from productive uses of water through water supply, renewable electricity supply (from micro-hydro, biofuels, and solar power), micro-irrigation, and agribusiness for economic and health improvements for the local people.
