PennWell Corporation’s HydroVision International Conference and Exhibition will be held at the Denver Convention Center July 23-26, 2013. The event will bring thousands of attendees to Denver, yielding an estimated $4 million in direct economic benefit to Denver and Colorado.
“Hydropower is a growing industry in Colorado that is creating jobs, providing energy security, and reducing consumer costs — all while protecting the environment,” said Francisco Flores of the Colorado Energy Office. “This event provides a fantastic opportunity to share our successes with energy professionals from around the world.”
HydroVision is the world’s largest hydropower conference and exhibition. It is a five-day training and networking event that includes workshops, seminars, briefings and meetings of hydro organizations. The numerous networking opportunities include a golf tournament and evening receptions, the hydro industry’s largest exhibition of products and services and a conference program featuring more than 70 sessions in eight hydro-focused tracks.
Colorado has been pioneering policy innovations to accelerate development of hydropower. Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) has been working with Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA) developing federal legislation to accelerate development of small hydro utilizing existing dams and conduits: the bipartisan Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act of 2012 was recently passed by the House of Representatives.
Colorado also provides grants and low-interest loan funding for hydro project construction through the Colorado Water Resources and Power Development Authority and the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
“Colorado already has hundreds of hydro-related jobs, a figure which has the potential to grow substantially if the pending federal hydro permitting reform legislation becomes law,” said Kurt Johnson, President of the Colorado Small Hydro Association.

The HydroVision International Conference and Exhibition is held annually, drawing more than 3,000 attendees from more than 40 countries and more than 300 exhibitors.
