French renewables firm forms Brazil hydro venture

French renewable energy developer Voltalia announced formation of a partnership with Brazil’s Focus Infraestrutura e Participacoes S/A to develop renewable energy projects, including hydropower, in Brazil.

Voltalia said June 28 the joint venture, Energio Participacoes, will be owned 51 percent by Voltalia and 49 percent by Focus.

It said the venture’s portfolio already includes nine hydropower projects under development totaling 49 MW. The projects are located in Brazil’s Amapa, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro states.

Voltalia, which develops renewable energy projects of hydro, wind, biomass, and solar power, also trades in carbon emissions credits. It has operations in France, Guyana, Brazil, and Greece.
