Vietnam hydro project builder Cavico Corp. has received a US$2.5 million contract to build an overfill spillway for Da Ban Irrigation Dam in Ninh Hoa District of Vietnam’s Khanh Hoa Province.
The contract, awarded by Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, calls for subsidiary Cavico Energy Construction JSC to excavate and remove 160,000 cubic meters of earth and rock for dam foundation. Cavico said June 18, 2009, that it is to construct 9,000 cubic meters of concrete walls and water slopes. The work is to require 27 months.
The 26-meter-tall, 348-meter-long dam was built in the 1980s. It has a reservoir volume of 79.2 million cubic meters and provides water to irrigate 9,000 hectares. The dam recently was upgraded and modernized. A 2003 European Union report on renewable energy potential said Da Ban had a potential for 2 MW of hydropower capacity.
In May, Cavico received an US$8.5 million contract to build a portion of the reservoir for the 20-MW Ngan Truoi hydroelectric project on Vietnam’s Song La River. (HydroWorld 5/13/09)
