Venezuela utility Corporacion Electrica Nacional S.A. (Corpoelec) invites expressions of interest to provide specialized technical support for rehabilitation of six turbine-generators of the 10,300-MW Simon Bolivar hydroelectric project on Venezuela’s Caroni River. Responses are due June 30.
The solicitation is part of a program by Corpoelec to rehabilitate six turbine-generators that have been operating for 50 years at Simon Bolivar, located at Guri Dam. The Inter-American Development Bank lent US$700 million and the Andean development corporation, Corporacion Andina de Fomento, lent US$380 million to help replace Units 1-6.
Corpoelec recruited consultants last year to train staff in hydro-meteorological and limnological monitoring and in emergency response and environmental education for the project.
The utility now invites expressions of interest from consultants to support rehabilitation of Units 1-6 in Simon Bolivar’s powerhouse 1. Work is to include support of hydraulic modeling, hydraulic structures study, laboratory standards development, engineering design, cost estimates, risk mitigation, procurement, dam safety management, and other areas.
Expressions of interest are due to the address below by 4 p.m. June 30 in a sealed envelope labeled “Asesoria Tecnica Especializada para el Proyecto de Rehabilitacion de las Unidades 1 a 6 de la Casa de Maquinas I de la Central Hidroelectrica Simon Bolivar de Guri, Proceso de Solicitud de Propuesta No. SP-CAP10-G-0133/2014.” They also may be submitted by e-mail to the addresses below. Bidder e-mail addresses must have a corporate domain name or use the Bolivian government’s cantv.net domain. Domains from Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail will not be received.
