The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to supply generator thrust bearing high pressure lift pump systems for the 270-MW Wolf Creek Dam hydroelectric project in Kentucky. Bids are due Sept. 1.
The Corps’ Nashville District last year awarded a contract to Aspen Construction Co. for dam safety site stabilization work at Wolf Creek, on the Cumberland River. Identifying the earthfill and concrete gravity dam as critically near failure or having extremely high life or economic risk, the Corps also awarded dam safety contracts in 2011 for a grout curtain at the project. It awarded Terracon Consultants Inc. a contract in 2013 for geotechnical engineering services at Wolf Creek and 135-MW Center Hill Dam in Tennessee.
The Nashville District now seeks bids for high pressure lift pump systems for four turbine units at the Wolf Creek power plant. The systems are to be custom fabricated hydraulic power units consisting of a variable displacement pump, motor, relief valves, hose, pipe, gauges, orifices, couplings, ball valves, etc., mounted on an integral frame. The contractor also is to furnish a replacement turbine oil filtration system. Installation is to be performed by the government.
