The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to construct a new diversion dam control structure at Saylorville Dam in Polk County, Iowa. Bids are due March 4.
The Corps operates Saylorville Dam on the Des Moines River for flood control, water supply, recreation and wildlife habitat. Although the dam has no hydropower, a unit of Free Flow Power holds a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission preliminary permit to study developing the 14.4-MW Saylorville Dam Water Power project (No. 13579).
The Corps’ Rock Island District seeks bids to replace a diversion dam control structure. Work includes underwater boring through a concrete-filled corrugated metal pipe; construction of a sheet pile cofferdam and dewatering; removal of gate structure, sluice gate with manual and electrically operated gate operator, bulkhead gate and gratings; construction of a new reinforced concrete control structure housing a sluice gate and bulkhead gate and a three-girder concrete deck bridge; installation of riprap; removal and replacement of an asphalt bike path; and associated incidental work.
The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.
