The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks information on firms able to perform remediation of leaking monolith joints at 2,160-MW John Day Dam by a program of drilling and waterstop repair. Responses are due Nov. 10.
The Corps’ Portland District took bids in October to supply intake gates and draft tube bulkheads for turbine maintenance at John Day, on the Columbia River in Oregon. It took bids in August to fabricate and supply a turbine maintenance platform at the project. It called for bids by Oct. 30 to perform fish counting services at John Day and seven other federal hydroelectric projects on the Columbia and Snake rivers.
In a sources sought notice, the Portland District now seeks information on firms able to propose remediation of leaking monolith joints as specified. The Corps said the joints are to be drilled vertically from the top of the roadway deck about 175 feet into the foundation rock beneath the dam. A steel pipe sleeve is to be installed to protect the upper 2 feet of drilled socket and monolith concrete during cleaning of the hole. Remedial waterstop material is to be placed into the drilled holes that then will be capped with galvanized steel covers.
