U.S. seeks dam safety site stabilization at 270-MW Wolf Creek Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids for dam safety site stabilization work at 270-MW Wolf Creek Dam in Kentucky. Registration is due June 6 for a June 10 site visit, with bids due June 26.

Identifying the earthfill and concrete gravity dam as critically near failure or having extremely high life or economic risk, the Corps awarded dam safety contracts in 2011 for a grout curtain at Wolf Creek, on the Cumberland River. The Corps awarded Terracon Consultants Inc. a $5 million contract in 2013 for geotechnical engineering services at Wolf Creek and 135-MW Center Hill Dam in Tennessee. Also that year, the Corps poured the last of 1,200 concrete piles required to mitigate seepage through the karst geology deep in Wolf Creek Dam’s foundation.

In a solicitation set aside for small businesses, the Nashville District now seeks bids for site stabilization at the project. Work is to include downstream berm regrading, a trench drain system, tailwater piping removal, and excavation and disposal area seeding. The work is valued at $1 million to $5 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W912P514B0004 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. A site visit is scheduled at 9:30 a.m., Central time, June 10. Registration for the visit is due June 6 via e-mail to the address below. Questions may be submitted by 1 p.m., Central time, June 13 by e-mail to the address below.

Bids are due June 26. For information, contact Jamie Davies, Contract Specialist, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, P.O. Box 1070, 801 Broadway, Nashville, TN 37202-1070; (1) 615-736-7921; E-mail: [email protected].
