The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has scheduled a site visit and a pre-bid conference on proposed dam safety construction at Addicks and Barker dams, which protect the Houston area from flooding. The site visit is June 15, followed by the conference June 16, with bids expected to be due July 6.
The Corps’ Galveston District said it expects to issue a solicitation about June 4 for the project to construct new outlet structures and cutoff walls at Addicks and Barker, which were built in response to flooding in Houston in 1929 and 1935. The Corps said the dams underwent evaluation under the Corps’ Dam Safety Program, which expressed concern about the dams’ outlet gates, which allow outflow to Buffalo Bayou, and to the ends of the dams.
Work is to comprise constructing new outlet works structures for each dam including intake towers, steel-lined conduits, parabolic chutes, stilling basins, cutoff walls and downstream filters. The work is to require 1,340 days at a cost of $25 million to $100 million.
A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W9126G15R0001 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. A site visit is scheduled June 15, followed by a pre-proposal conference June 16. A solicitation is expected to be issued about June 4 with bids to be due at 2 p.m., Central time, July 6.
