The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids for electrical service replacement at Barkley Lock, part of the 130-MW Barkley hydroelectric complex on the Cumberland River in Kentucky. A site visit is scheduled Feb. 5 with bids due Feb. 24.
National Electric Coil completed repairs in November to generator stator windings that were damaged by a fire at the hydro project in December 2010. In 2012, the Corps awarded contracts to Ostrom Painting and Sandblasting Inc. to paint Barkley’s tainter gates and to repair the gates’ bent members, rusted web stiffeners and cracked weld connections.
In a solicitation set aside for small business, the Corps’ Nashville District now seeks replacement of all electrical service equipment in the Barkley navigation lock and operations building, resource manager’s office, warehouse and maintenance buildings and project street lighting. The work is to require at least 270 calendar days at a cost of $500,000 to $1 million.
A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W912P514B0002 in the “Keyword/Solicitation #” box. A site visit is scheduled Feb. 5 with registration recommended by Feb. 4.
